Coloring in the Car Solution

So my dear sweet husband drove to Houston to visit his parents with the girls by himself.  I had a girls weekend at my house with my 2 best friends from college.  A "staycation" of laying out by the pool, drinking wine and talking (lots of talking).

When we are in the car, the girls always are dropping their crayons.  If I am there also, I can typically reach them but with only one person, there would be no way to get them.  So I came up with this contraption.  They may have things like this out there but I just tried to do a simple solution with things I already had in my house.
  • 1 kid size bracelet
  • 6 pieces of yarn about 1 foot each
  • crayons - one of each rainbow color
I had to make 2 of these for each girl.  I just tied all 6 pieces to the bracelet and the other end to each crayon.  My husband said it worked wonderfully.  They just slipped the bracelet on when they wanted to color and if they dropped a crayon, they could retrieve it themselves.  I wouldn't suggest it for younger kids (mine are 3) because the yarn can come off the crayons if you try.  I guess you could glue them for more durability.

Anyone else have some great car trip solutions?  I am always looking for things that make our drives easier with trying to minimize TV time.

  8. That's pretty much the best idea ever. I don't even have kids and I think it's a fabulous idea. I remember constantly dropping things on long car trips as a kid (even now I think I ought to have things attached). Kudos for such a simple clever solution!
